If you're heading to the beautiful Caribbean island of Bonaire, it's important to know about the mandatory Visitor Entry Tax—a government initiative aimed at supporting local infrastructure, tourism development, and environmental conservation. Whether you're coming for the diving, nature, or relaxing beaches, here’s what you need to know before you arrive. Non-residents aged 13 and older will be required to pay a $75.00 per visitor entry tax; residents of the former Netherlands Antilles and non-residents aged 12 and under will be required to pay $10.00 per visitor. The mandatory tax will be paid digitally via an online platform or upon arrival at the airport. I highly suggest paying the tax online to avoid the long line at the airport.
Why Rent a Car?
One of the first things to know is that Uber and Lyft do not operate on the island. While taxis are available, they can become expensive quickly—especially if you plan to explore multiple beaches, dive sites, or restaurants during your stay.
To save both time and money, I highly recommend renting a car during your stay. Having your own vehicle gives you the freedom to explore the island at your own pace—from the southern salt flats to the northern national parks.

Pro tip: All the other restaurants accept credit cards, so no need to worry about carrying cash unless you're stopping by Gio's!
